ABOUT THE FIFTH SESSION - HE BEGAN TO TEACH THEM: THE CORE OF JESUS' MISSION AND MINISTRY

Mount of Beatitudes - Magdala - Bethsaida.

We will start with a visit to the Mount of Beatitudes. This site, once known as Mt. Eremos, and located between Capernaum and Tabgha, just above the “Cove of the Sower”, provides the beautiful setting of the so-called “Sermon on the Mount” registered in both the Gospel according to Matthew and Luke (Matthew 5-7 and Luke 6). The top of the mountain overlooks the four-miles long Plain of Gennesaret, an area known for its fertility. Here Jesus healed the multitudes and faced Pharisaic condemnation for ritual impurity (Mark 6-7).

After the Mount of Beatitudes we will virtually visit Magdala, the hometown of Mary Magdalene, one of Jesus’ disciples. In this location, very close to the geographical center of Jesus’ ministry (Capernaum, Chorazin, Gennesareth, etc), archeologists discovered an entire first century Jewish town, including an ancient synagogue, currently the oldest synagogue excavated in Galilee, where probably Jesus taught.

Finally we will virtually stop in Bethsaida, today part of a spacious and fertile plain, crisscrossed by streams, aqueducts, and irrigation canals, where the feeding of the 5,000 likely took place.
