ABOUT THE THIRD SESSION - IN THE DESERT PREPARE THE WAY: THE ANOINTED AND TESTED MESSIAH

Dead Sea, Jordan River, Mt. of Temptations, Qumran, Masada.

With session three we will travel to the Judean wilderness, an area that has been (mostly) uninhabited throughout history because of its lack of water and good routes. John the Baptist preached here, and it seems likely that this was also the wilderness where Jesus was baptized. In the  Judean Wilderness we will stop by the Dead Sea, mentioned in the Bible with the names of “Salt Sea” or the “Sea of the Arabah,” and in post-biblical literature with the names of “Sea of Sodom,” “Sea of Lot,” “Sea of Asphalt”, “Stinking Sea” and “Devil’s Sea.”

Afterwards we will visit the site of Qumran, ten miles south of Jericho, and one of the most relevant sites related to the Bible: the scrolls found here changed radically the study of both the Old and the New Testament.

From Qumran we will virtually drive to the site of Masada, whose summit sits 190 feet above the sea level and about 1,500 feet above the Dead Sea level. Here we will have the opportunity to explore the fortress built by King Herod between 37 and 31 BCE and also remember one of the last events of the First Jewish Roman War, the siege and fall of Masada under the Romans, occurred from 73 to 74 CE.
