ABOUT THE THIRD SESSION - Women with "Feet of Clay" - Rebekah and Miriam.

In this third session Christine Rubinstein will unfold the captivating human and spiritual journey of Rebekah, the second biblical matriarch, the daughter  of Bethuel, and the sister of Lavan. Even if Rivkah comes from a rather despicable family background, and despite her "feet of clay", Rivkah is able to become, ultimately, a beacon of light.

In the second part of this session, Christine Rubinstein will focus on another Old Testament woman, Miriam, most well-known  to us as Moses's big sister, and deeply connected to the biblical concept of redemption.

ABOUT THE SERIES "SOME WOMEN OF THE OLD TESTAMENT: THEIR STORIES AND OURS"

For many Christians, the Old Testament is familiar mostly through childhood Bible stories - Noah's ark, Samson and Delilah, David and Goliath, Daniel in the lion's den. For some, much of the Old Testament is obscure and seems to be "long ago and far away", veiled in the mists of time. Perhaps they - or you yourself - question how important it is for Christians nowadays to know very much about these ancient writings.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church states, "The unity of the two Testaments proceeds from the unity of God's plan and his Revelation. The Old Testament prepared for the New and the New Testament fulfills the Old; the two shed light on each other; both are the true Word of God." (CCC #140) History, in a Biblical sense, is "His Story" - the Story God is telling throughout the whole Bible.

We will be studying some Old Testament women - mostly ordinary women with ordinary day to day lives - who play important roles in the Love Story that God is revealing to us in Scripture. We will seek to answer some questions as we look at their lives:

Why study these women? Why do they matter, really? What can we possibly learn from them? And what do their stories have to do with our own stories?
